Grammatical differences also developed, with variations in verb usage, tense preference, and preposition choice. For example, Americans tend to use the past simple tense where the British might use the present perfect. Even collective nouns are used differently, with Americans typically treating them as singular and the British as plural. These distinctions, while not always drastic, can lead to subtle misunderstandings in international communication. However, exposure to both varieties through media, education, and global travel has made most English speakers more adaptable and aware of these nuances.
