Abstract

This article examines the challenges involved in translating culture-specific idioms, focusing on their linguistic complexity, cultural embeddedness, and lack of direct equivalents in the target language. Idioms represent a unique layer of language where meaning cannot be interpreted literally, which makes their translation particularly demanding. The study discusses key difficulties such as cultural mismatch, loss of figurative imagery, and differences in stylistic and pragmatic functions. It also considers commonly used translation strategies, including functional equivalence, paraphrasing, and cultural substitution.
